"Awai" (あわい) is the related Japanese word for the space between two things — sharing its root with "MA." ※「あわい」は、ものとものの狭間・境目にある空間や時間を指す言葉で、「間（ま）」と語源を同じくします。
MA is a Japanese concept describing the space, time, blank space, and stillness that exist between things. MA Photobooks introduces this distinctly Japanese aesthetic to the world through the medium of photography. MA（間）は、日本文化における「空間」「時間」「余白」「静けさ」を表す概念です。MA Photobooksは、この日本特有の美意識を、写真というメディアを通して世界へ紹介するフォトブックレーベルです。

Many regions of Japan that experienced earthquakes and natural disasters are still home to remarkable landscapes and living culture. This project documents the scenery and daily life of these areas and shares it with the world. 日本には震災や自然災害を経験した地域にも、美しい風景や文化が多く残っています。本プロジェクトでは、そうした地域の風景や暮らしを記録し、世界へ紹介することを目的としています。
